Hope Therapy Center

Heather Gonzalez

Speech-Language Pathologist, SLP

heatherI am a Speech-Language Pathologist and have been working at Hope Therapy Center since April of 2014 and have loved every minute of it! I first began working as a speech therapist assistant in 2006 after graduating with my Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Texas – Pan American. I worked as an assistant for 3 years before going on to receive my Master’s Degree at Texas A&M University – Kingsville in 2010. I have since worked at other pediatric clinics as well as a home health agency. I have always loved language and helping people with communication difficulties in all types of settings. When I found myself at Hope’s doors and learned more about this population of those with a hearing loss I became extremely eager to learn more about the new technology available as well as eager to learn more sign language! I still remember my first day at Hope, meeting one of the children who has a cochlear implant and gave me my sign name. Being able to be part of our patient’s journey in learning to listen and communicate whether through speech or sign language is such an amazing thing and I am thankful that my own journey has brought me here. I am a member of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) and hold a certificate of training in Beckman Oral Motor techniques. Since working at Hope I have learned to use American Sign Language as well as Signed Exact English in order to communicate and expand on language with our patients who use manual language. I am so thankful to be part of this team and I will continue to learn about new technologies and resources which help our patients and their families begin and expand on their ability to communicate.
