As of August 2016 I have been blessed with the opportunity to be part of the “Hope Family” . I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Speech Language Pathology at the University of Texas-Pan American in 2014, earned a Master’s degree at the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley in 2016, and currently certified as a member of the American Speech and Hearing Association.
When I graduated, I quickly began my job search to work with individuals in need of speech therapy services. I interviewed at various therapy centers, but when I arrived at Hope, I knew this was where I wanted to be. I was amazed by all the staff and their compassion, background, and knowledge in working with those affected by hearing loss. I was moved by their purpose to help patients and their families embark on their journeys while having the opportunity to receive speech therapy, occupational therapy, social services, and aural (re)habilitation services. There was no doubt that this was the place where I wanted to begin my career.
I began and completed my internship at Hope Therapy Center with the help, patience and guidance of Beckie Wood and all the Hope family. They welcomed me with open arms and made me feel at home. I have been part of Hope for a little over a year, and throughout my time here I have bonded and made many unforgettable memories with the staff, patients, and their loved ones.
An experience that stands out is having the opportunity to be a therapist to a particular patient who had been receiving speech therapy at Hope since she was an infant. I was her therapist for a year but had been told about the wonderful progress she had made over the years with the support and participation of her family. I had the honor and opportunity to be her therapist for her final year at Hope. She has since graduated after receiving speech therapy for 5 years. Seeing how excited she and her family members were is more than enough to say how I proud I am to be a team and family member of Hope Therapy Center. We are a center who helps patients and their families achieve goals like these!
